Jann E. Schlimme [Journal für Philosophie & Psychiatrie, Jg. 1 (2008), Ausgabe 1]
Dear Collegues,
on behalf of the editors I would like to welcome you on the homepage of the Journal for Philosophy and Psychiatry. The Journal for Philosophy and Psychiatry is an open access and online Journal. It is a forum for interdisciplinary discussions taking place in the intermediate field of the psychiatric and psychological disciplines and philosophy. In this ongoing discussion a broad range of topics are present: philosophical questions are challenged with psychiatric and psychological methods, alternately philosophical methods allow to express basic assumptions and fundaments of psychiatry and focus on the dimension of meaning inherent in the psychiatric and psychological field. Philosophy thereby shows that it is more than an academic discipline hovering at the borders of the psychiatric discourse.
The Journal for Philosophy and Psychiatry was basically born in November 2006 reflecting the wish of psychiatrists orientated in humanities and philosophy and of philosophers interested in philosophical topics and questions relevant for psychology and psychiatry. In the year 2007 the editors developed this basic idea more and more and soon discovered that it was definitely necessary to open the Journal for contributions in other languages. An univocal decision was made to accept contributions in English, French, Italian and Spanish as well as German. In this decision two aspects are present: namely a more european and a more global orientation of the Journal. Both aspects can also be found in the editorial board with a more european character at the moment, although the board will surely expand in the different language areas in the future.
The editors Thomas Buchheim (Munich), Thomas Fuchs (Heidelberg), Martin Heinze (Bremen), Hans-Peter Krüger (Potsdam), Michael Musalek (Vienna) and Jann E. Schlimme (Hannover) as editor-in-chief are proud to present the first issue of the Journal. In the five papers the variety of the discussions in the interdisciplinary field of philosophy and psychiatry and the european foundation of the Journal can be seen. We hope that you find the papers stimulating and that they can raise your interest for further publishments of our Journal. If requested you can subscribe to our newsletter which will keep you informed about the quarterly publications. Of course we would be pleased if you were interested in an active participation in these discussions in the Journal for Philosophy and Psychiatry and we are looking forward to your comments and contributions.
With best wishes on behalf of the editors, Yours
Jann E. Schlimme (editor-in-chief)
